About Peru

Peru covers 1,285,216 km2 (496,225 sq mi) of western South America. It borders Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil to the east, Bolivia to the southeast, Chile to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The Inca Trail is 42 km (26 miles) long. Campsites along the Camino are assigned by the INC (National Institute of Culture) and for this reason, it is difficult to determine the distance to travel in one day, but generally you walk from 6 to 9 hours per day during the first three days and about 2 hours on the last day.

Peru uses 220 volts, 60 cycles of electricity. Travelers will need a voltage converter for 110 volt devices. Plugs are typically the 2-flat-pin type found in the US, although some installations have been observed using the 2-round prongs instead.

Visitors or US citizens to Peru do not need a visa if they are traveling as a tourist with a valid US passport. You will be given a tourist card upon entry, which is valid for up to 90 days. There are no renewals of Peru visas.
